An Excellent EM book!

This book was designed for the undergrad and beginning graduate/ambitious senior undergrad (for the later chapters that deal with PDE's). It's very well-written and even explains mathematical concepts like divergence and curl in a very clear manner, providing good examples to illustrate what can be tough to understand material. It's very detailed and mathematically rigorous. I wish that more EM texts/physics books were written this way, because it includes real-world examples for many of the concepts. I like how the chapters are sequentially arranged and also titled to make the concepts clearer. For example, Faraday's law is in the chapter entitled "Time-changing Electric and Magnetic Fields". This gives the student a better perspective on crucial concepts, rather than only a so-called "conditional statement" within the chapter as most other books are written.

I recommend this to the student seeking a thorough book where the concepts are more completely derived, not just "hand-waved" seemingly out of thin air as most popular undergraduate physics and EM books seem to do these days. That can be frustrating and impede a student's learning, and it seems that many modern textbook authors "dumb-down" their texts in a disrespectful manner to the average student's intellect. This isn't how Kraus wrote this book, so if you read it and do the problems be prepared to be challenged!...in a good way.

This is a classic book for anyone interested in electrostatics

I am 71 years old and studied from this book in the 1960s when going for my BS in electrical engineering. My son graduated with his BS in electrical engineering a few years ago and when we had discussions about electrostatics I would show him information in this book. His textbook skipped much of the information that can be found in this book. Eventually my son made the comment that he would like me to will him this textbook. I bought this book for my son so he would have a good source of technical information at his fingertips. He was ecstatic. Besides, I am hoping it will be many years before my WILL is read.

Best E&M textbook from the EE side of the fence

As a physicist, I am required to worship at the altar of Jackson Classical Electrodynamics Third Edition and rightly so. But I also work with antennas, for which Kraus has written the great masterpiece Antennas, but bridging the physics and the engineering in E&M is not trivial. Most EE E&M textbooks have an extremely weird feel to a physicist, prominent errors, odd terminology, and a disdain for physical reasoning dominate. This book is different. It brings a rigorous treatment as well as engineering terminology and interests to the party.

This book is the Handbook for the Confraternity of Penitents, a lay Catholic organization. This Handbook makes their guidelines so clear. To appreciate this book one needs to check out the Confraternity of Penitents website to fully understand the way this Rule is to be lived. Also living the Rule in a Community gives depth to the Rule presented.

Excellent resource. Compilies a lot of information that is spread across various parts of websites, and clarifies some of the goals and beliefs of the organization in the Frequently Asked Questions section, which I found most helpful of all. Bought both the Kindle and print editions.

About the Author
Cathy Pope has been Senior Research Fellow in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Southampton since August 2003. Prior to this she worked as Lecturer in Medical Sociology in the University of Bristol medical school (1999-2003) and University of Leicester medical school (1994-1999). She co-edited, with Nicholas Mays, a popular introductory text, Qualitative Research in Health Care (2nd edition 1999, BMJ Books).

Nicholas Mays has been Professor of Health Policy in the Health Services Research Unit at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine since May 2003. Before joining the School he worked in the Social Policy Branch of the NZ Treasury, at the King’s Fund where he was director of health services research, at the Queen’s University of Belfast, at the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals and in the NHS.

Jennie Popay is Professor of Sociology and Public Health, Institute for Health Research, University of Lancaster. Her research interests include social and gender inequalities in health, the sociology of knowledge (with particular emphasis on lay knowledge about health and illness) and the evaluation of complex social interventions and she has published widely on these subjects. She is currently a commissioner and vice chair of Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health.

About the Author
Paul Davis (Ph.D., University of Wisconsin), professor emeritus of English at the University of New Mexico, has been the recipient of several teaching awards and academic honors, including that of Master teacher. He has taught courses since 1962 in composition, rhetoric, and nineteenth-century literature and has written and edited many scholarly books, including The Penguin Dickens Companion (1999), Dickens A to Z (1998), and The Lives and Times of Ebenezer Scrooge (1990). He has also written numerous scholarly and popular articles on solar energy and Victorian book illustration. His most recent book is Critical Companion to Charles Dickens (2007).

Gary Harrison (Ph.D., Stanford University), professor and director of graduate studies at the University of New Mexico, has won numerous fellowships and awards for scholarship and teaching. He has taught courses in world literature, British Romanticism, and literary theory at the University of New Mexico since 1987. Harrison's publications include a critical study of William Wordsworth, Wordsworth's Vagrant Muse: Poetry, Poverty, and Power (1994); as well as several articles on topics such as John Clare's poetry, Romanticism and Ecology, nineteenth-century culture, and teaching world literature.

David M. Johnson (Ph.D., University of Connecticut), professor emeritus of English at the University of New Mexico, has taught courses in world literature, mythology, the Bible as literature, philosophy and literature, and creative writing since 1965. He has written, edited, and contributed to numerous scholarly books and collections of poetry, including Fire in the Fields (1996) and Lord of the Dawn: The Legend of Quetzalcoatl (1987). He has also published scholarly articles, poetry, and translations of Nahuatl myths. His most recent book of poetry is Rebirth of Wonder: Poems of The Common Life (University of New Mexico Press, 2007).

John F. Crawford (Ph.D., Columbia University; postdoctoral studies, Yale University), associate professor of English emeritus at the University of New Mexico, has taught medieval, world, and other literature courses since 1965 at a number of other institutions including California Institute of Technology and Hunter College and Herbert Lehmann College of CUNY. The publisher of West End Press, an independent literary press with 120 titles, Crawford has also edited This Is About Vision: Interviews with Southwestern Writers (1990) and written articles on multicultural literature of the Southwest.

Great selections and organization in book

This book carries a great selection of classic works by tradition
I used this book for my World Lit course in January(required text), but have decided not to sell it back and keep it for reading sake.

I am used to reading from Norton Anthologies, so was a bit skeptical about reading from the Bedford Anthology. Surprisingly, in the end, I actually enjoyed the Bedford collection more. The context is given in the "in-between" blue pages of the book and gives excellent articles, short stories, and historical background for the main stories themselves. They were extremely helpful and expanded both my knowledge of significant historical events as well as influential literature.

Although, this product is considered the "compact" edition, the book is still considerably large and thick.
It is definitely not a book you would carry around in your purse or take everywhere with you for leisure reading.

It is a really great product in which I really enjoyed it and I would recommend it to anyone to purchase. Went beyond my expectations!

It said it was a used a book. It ment it. All the pages were there; however, there v was something sticky on the cover I wish had been cleaned off. But it shipped quickly so it wasn't bad
