I've been in a fatal crash back in September of 2015 and it's been really hard to deal with. My counselor recommended this book to help me deal with my past and all the negative family that have fueled my life and the accident. I've never thought about all the negative fueling my life before until this book. I've always been a positive person until life hit me hard with this accident. I was finding it difficult to stay positive anymore until I read this book. Thank you so much for helping me get back to joy and thanks to my councillor to showing me the way.

If you love parables, you'll love this book...

Middle aged man comes home one day and starts to take stock of his life - he is failing at his job, in his marriage and with his kids. One day his car breaks down on his way to work and he has to take the bus to work - he meets a bus driver and passengers who force him to reflect on his life and a better way forward. The author, through this parable, reveals "10 secrets" for success in life, at home and in work that lead to fulfillment and accomplishment. The 10 rules:

1) You're the driver of your bus
2) Desire, vision, and focus move your bus in the right direction
3) Fuel your ride with positive energy (negative energy is friction)
4) Invite people on your bus and share your vision for the road ahead
5) Don't waste your energy on those who don't get on your bus
6) Post a sign that says no energy vampires allowed on your bus (get rid of the malcontents)
7) Enthusiasm attracts more passengers and energizes them for the ride
8) Love your passengers by giving them your time, listening, recognition, service - work to bring out the best in them
9) Drive with purpose
10) Have fun and enjoy the ride

My assessment:

1) Easy to read, can finish in one 2 hour sitting

2) Initially comes off as "too cute" but author manages to pull you in with a simple but powerful message with some basic plays in a ground game that can win

3)Applicable to all ages from teenager on up

4)If you like parables, you'll love the story's messages. If not, you'll wonder why you didn't just jump to the excellent outline recap in the back of the book.

5) This story reminds me of the famous Albert Einstein quote: "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not one bit simpler." The author succeeds in taking a frustratingly easy trap to fall into with a simple and effective path forward.

"The goal is not to be better than anyone else but rather be better than you were yesterday."

and

"Your positive energy and vision must be greater than anyone's and everyone's negativity. Your certainty must be greater than everyone's doubt. After all, George, there will always be the doubters who doubt, doubt and doubt and tell you you can't do this and you won't be able to accomplish that. They think that dreams were meant for others but not for people like you and them. And there will even be people who don't want you to succeed because it makes them see their own weaknesses and failures. So that's how important your positive energy is George. You can always kick people off your bus and you'll need to do that from time to time but just remember that there will always be more negative people who get on. And sometimes you will have an Energy Vampire on your bus like a boss or someone who you can't kick off. You got to deal with them. That's why you got to feed the positive dog and why you got to cultivate it every day and why we gave you the Energy Book. One day is not enough, George. It's got to be a habit. Positive energy is a like a muscle. The more you use it the stronger it gets. The stronger it gets the more powerful you become. Repetition is the key and the more you focus on positive energy the more it becomes your nature state. So when someone comes at you with negativity you will be able to respond with strength and positive energy."

Awesome book! Love thinking about the hum drum days & how to inspire ourselves and others. A cute story of inspiration and kindness. Love it. A very thoughtful book. Makes you think about your life and the way you are portrayed to others. Makes one think about how much energy we put in, is what we get back, and giving to others creates a climate of kindness. We can only control ourselves, not others, and this has practical tips to review to have a great life. One to read several times. A great, classic book.

About the Author
Loren W. Christensen has been involved in law enforcement since 1967. He began as a 21-year-old military policeman in the US Army, serving stateside and as a patrolman in Saigon, Vietnam during the war. At 26, he joined the Portland, Oregon Police Bureau working a variety of jobs to include street patrol, gang enforcement, intelligence, body guarding, and academy trainer, retiring after 25 years. He has trained various security agencies in arrest and control techniques, and officer survival. After retiring from police work, Loren began a fulltime career as a writer, now with over 50 books in print with five publishers, as well as magazine articles, and blog pieces. He edited a police newspaper for nearly seven years. His non fiction include books on the martial arts, police work, PTSD, mental preparation for violence, meditation, nutrition, exercise, and various subcultures, to include prostitution, street gangs, skid row, and riots. His fiction series Dukkha was a finalist in the prestigious USA Best Book Awards. As a martial arts student and teacher since 1965, Loren has earned a total of 11 black belts in three arts and was inducted into the Masters Hall of Fame in 2011.

Like the paranormal itself, this book is as unexpected as it is fascinating!

So when I first heard that Loren "martial arts author" Christensen was putting out a book about ghosts and UFOs and whatnot, it was a definite, "wait... what?" moment. What I've always enjoyed about Christensen's books are his ability to take very complex concepts (such as martial arts, meditation, nutrition) and filter them into a simple and understandable concept. No fluff and, more importantly, no mysticism. So this one kind of came out of blue.

All that said, if you are a fan of Christensen's other books, trust me and check this one out. Christensen takes his vast law enforcement experience, gathers a team of folks with similar experience, and presents a collection of stories that will both interest you and possibly even creep the daylights out of you. This is a side of the law enforcement world you have never seen, heard of, and most likely have never even considered.

Even if you, like me, are a skeptic of ghosts and aliens and everything related, give this a try. At worst you will be very entertained. And, who knows, maybe it will make you wonder if there really is something lurking in the dark...

Best book I've read on the subject. Fascinating and sometimes chilling, there is enough variety here to hook people of every interest. I really liked the UFO story and the stories about people vanishing in front of the officers.

About the Author

Tobias Heussner is an experienced Game Content / Narrative Designer who started developing games in high school. He has worked on more than 18 published titles ranging from AAA PC games to handheld console games and Free2Play browser games. His areas of expertise include Game Content Design, Game Narrative Design/Writing, Game System Design and Game Production.

Toiya Kristen Finley has 20 years of experience as a writer and editor in several media. In games, she has worked as a game designer, narrative designer, and game writer (or some combination of the three) on several indie, social, and mobile games for children and general audiences, including Academagia: The Making of Mages and Fat Chicken. With Tobias Heussner, she co-founded the Game Writing Tutorial at GDC Online and served as an instructor.

Jennifer Brandes Hepler got her start in tabletop game development, working for well-known properties such as Shadowrun and Paranoia before detouring to Hollywood to work on CBS Television’s The Agency. She then spent eight years as a senior writer and narrative designer at Bioware, on the Dragon Age franchise and Star Wars: The Old Republic. She is now lead writer on Game of Thrones: Ascent.

Ann Lemay joined the video-game industry in 1997. Over the years she’s worked as a game designer, narrative designer, and writer on a wide range of projects. In 2010 she joined BioWare Montréal, where she wrote for Mass Effect 3 and Mass Effect 3: Omega, contributed to Dragon Age: Inquisition, and is now working full-time on the next Mass Effect title.

A wonderful resource for anyone with an interest in games

This is an amazing resource for anyone with an interest in games. The authors are leaders in their field and have included very detailed advice in this book. It also includes questions to ask as you develop a game, considerations for world building, character development, and writing dialogue. They even included several interviews with other game writers/ designers throughout, in a way that leaves you feeling ready to jump into the world of the narrative designer.

Oh, and the book includes exercises to help you prepare your portfolio for the job application process, so you have no excuses!

What an amazing resource to anyone in games. This came recommended by Warren Spector as one of his books to read to understand more about game narrative. This is great for anyone who wants to know what being a writer for games is all about. It's also great for any game dev who wants to understand more about the process that goes into creating stories in games and how writers use more than words to craft the whole experience. With 4 different authors, you get a great view of how narrative jobs are different throughout the industry and some of the philosophies people have when creating a game's story and then techniques for making it happen.

Read it if you want to understand what it's like to write for games.

Some of Christopher Moore's funniest work. Or at least most absurd. Or at least, um, something. I've yet to read anything by him that didn't make me absurdly happy, and I've read, I think, eighty percent of his library?

This is a good, weird little story that never lacks for a smart laugh while still making you care about the larger narrative and the individual character arcs.

The scene with the boat the giant, yeah, appendages might not fall under the category of smart laughs, but it's one that'll stick with you for sure.

More good clean fun from Moore!

I'm a huge fan of Christopher Moore, but when I read the description of the book on the jacket (something about scientists studying whales), I have to admit I wasn't too interested. But my faith in Moore caused me to go ahead and take the plunge. I'm very glad I did.

This is his first real "science-fiction" book, with the science of whales and whale communication playing an important role. As near as I can tell, much of the opening third of the book contains lots of "true" information about the state of our knowledge of whales today. Later, when the book goes off on some truly bizarre tangents, the "fiction" is well thought out. It's insane, but well thought out!

We follow the adventures of a group of people with various interests in learning about whales, from serious scientists to hangers-on, to stoners just looking for easy work. The best thing about Moore's novels are the wacky characters, who manage to become sweet and endearing by the end of the book. His novels are crazily plotted, but characters always come to the fore. There are some funny romances and some minor characters that are just a lot of fun. It's the kind of book that you imagine getting a big-screen treatment as you're reading it...you just want to start casting it in your head. And Moore, to me, is one of the few writers who actually evokes laugh-out-loud moments. Just clever turns of a phrase or an unlikely methaphor that makes me laugh in admiration.

I hesitate to discuss the plot, because to give you a sketchy overview might turn you off, and to go into depth would reveal too many of the delightful treats in store. If you've read and enjoyed Moore before, by all means take a look. If you haven't read Christopher Moore and are in the mood for some wacky but touching fun...take a look. I think you'll be pleased.

Whales and Their-uh-Songs-ahem

This book should be sold at the Phallic Museum in Reykjavik Iceland, right next to the preserved whale willies in their really really big jars. In fact, the most hilarious scene in the book has to do with the aforementioned items.
Fluke isn't as jam-packed with funny scenes as other Moore books, but it has plenty of unforgettable characters. Kona the ersatz Hawaiian Rastafarian was my favorite. Unfortunately, Moore couldn't quite slide his message in with the twisted humor as neatly as he has in the past (Lamb, Coyote Blue, ), so he was forced to put it in an appendix, albeit a humorous one.
In general, while Fluke was well worth reading, it was missing Moore's usual go-for-broke insanity

Another Edge Of Your Seat Vampire Thriller!!!

I can't tell you how excited I was to get my hands on this book! I loved the first book in the series, The Emerald Talisman, and the second book did not disappoint! The Sapphire Talisman had me hooked from the get go. The story picks up with Julia and Nicholas trying to have as 'normal' a life as possible after the events at the end of the last book. Normalcy doesn't come easy for them considering Nicholas is a vampire slayer and half vampire himself and Julia is an empath and a MAJOR vamp magnet! However, the two of them are taking advantage of this lull in vamp activity and enjoying spending time together. But like all good things... it must come to an end. It doesn't take long for evil to rear is vampiric head or for Julia to draw it right to them! An old enemy has returned and Julia and Nicholas are once again thrust into another round of good vs. evil. The stakes are higher this time and the lines become blurred between the two sides in a jaw-dropping kinda way! I was super-excited to see some of my favorite characters from The Emerald Talisman make a return in this book. I won't spoil the surprise and tell you who returns, but I will say that one in particular was completely unexpected and 100% AWESOME!!! Brenda definitely keeps you guessing this time. The plot is full of twist and turns and 'I can't believe that just happened' kind of moments. The pace was quick and there was no lack of action or suspense. The characters, especially Julia, did some growing up in this book and we learned some valuable family history concerning both Julia and Nicholas. The characters also showed more depth, which allowed a greater connection with them while reading. The ending offered closure to some pretty big questions, leaving me satisfied. But like all good series, new questions arise that can only be answered in the final Talisman Series installment titled, The Onyx Talisman- which is due out in late 2011! Kudos to Brenda for writing another edge of your seat thriller that will have you swooning and biting your nails at the same time! If you haven't read this book yet.... What are you waiting for?

A Much Better Second

I found the The Sapphire Talisman to be much better in almost every way than the first book of this series. The plot was better and more exciting and the characters were more interesting. We get to know Julia much better in this one and I like her. She's strong, brave and caring for her friends and family. Her love for Nicholas makes much more sense and their relationship is more realistic. BUT, I don't like what happens to him. That's not a fault or flaw of the book - that's just how the story goes. I just wished better for him. I hope he pulls out of it because if he doesn't, I'm afraid I won't like him. Pandos did a much better job on this one in all regards and I look forward to reading the last book of the trilogy.

A Great Sequel

After reading The Emerald Talisman, I've been eagerly awaiting The Sapphire Talisman, the sequel, because I couldn't wait to see what would happen next to Julia and Nicholas. Thankfully, when I finally did get the chance to read The Sapphire Talisman, it turned out to be everything I was expecting and even more. It was seriously even better than its prequel, something that doesn't usually happen that often in series.

The Sapphire Talisman continues shortly after The Emerald Talisman left off. Julia and Nicholas' secret relationship is better than ever and everything has mostly returned back to normal. Though, soon enough, everything turns upside down once again when Alora makes yet another grand appearance. This time she's meaner than ever, and promises to wreck not only Julia and Nicholas' relationship, but the characters themselves. Will they fight back and win? Will secrets be reveled? Only time will tell in this spectacular follow-up to The Emerald Talisman.

Character develepment! It was present in nearly every character and relationship in this book, and that was something that I was not only grateful for but also one of my favorite parts of the book, because I loved finding out more about Nicholas and his mysterious past, as well as Alora's coven and Julia's family. I also liked the new "hat" Julia wore in this book because not only was she fearless and brave but she stood on her own quite nicely, instead of hanging on Nicholas's every word. Plus I loved the tension between her and Nicholas and a surprise guest. It always kept me on the edge of my chair curious to see what would occur next.

Anohter part of this novel I enjoyed was the plot. For one, it was even more action packed and develeped than in in The Emerald Tailsman, and for two, it forever left me on the tips of my toes with all the twist and turns it mangaged to pack in between the charactes and their relationships.

Brenda's writing was also even better in this book. As mentioed before she did a fablous job with develepment. Plus her transitions and pace were both great!

In all, The Sapphire Talisman is defitnely one of the best sequels I've read in a long time, and I can't wait to see what Brenda has in store for all of her readers next!

great series

I realize this is not for everyone but if you like to read femdom stories you will like this. Doesn't contain much in the way of torture. This series focuses on brainwashing of the male.Josh is being programmed into something else, not a man but a slave. I suppose something like the process described here might actually work on someone who is already submissive.I wouldn't want to find out, but it is fun reading and I am eagerly awaiting the rest of the series.

Yet another cliffhanger. Ugh!!!

This book contains more depth than those before it, finally giving us a glimpse into the inner thoughts and feelings of the characters. In particular, this book lets us see that Talia is more than just a powerful, dominant, angry woman. Juliet finally makes an appearance, thoroughly enjoying the brief amount of time she spends with Josh. Unfortunately, just as I was becoming more invested in the story, this, "book" abruptly ended. After reading 4 of these brief stories, each one ending with a huge cliffhanger, it is time for me to call it quits. Had these installments been combined into one full book, I certainly would continue reading but since that's not the case, it's time for me to throw in the towel. I am disappointed that I'll never know what happens with Josh, Juliet and Tallia but knowing how the series and is definitely not worth paying for even more of these, "books".

I love how wicked Miss Talia is in this book!!!

The characters in this series take on a life of their own. Miss Talia's jealousy grows and Josh pays the price. He is being totally broken and every time you think hes hit bottom.. you're wrong! Will his Ex Juliette want him after Talia's reprograms him to crave c**k? How wonderfully wicked! Gawd I love this series!.. More please!
