It is a story of triumph and tragedy, of Purple Hearts, Iwo Jima, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, of disease, kamikazes, family, life, fathers and sons, mothers and sisters, birth, death, war, loss, faith, atheism, quiet joy, fear, bomb runs and locker runs, jazz bands, courage, heroism, and even occasional stupidity. From the bitterly cold winter morning when he leaves his Minneapolis home in 1943, to his return at the end of the war, this book celebrates those who served during World War II, while embracing the complex range of emotions and experiences that are unique to a time of war. In his memoir, Moore provides a first-person account of his service during World War II and the people and experiences he encountered along the way. “We were a B-24 bomber crew,” Moore writes, “our ten and twelve hour missions were entirely over the wide Pacific, and on a couple of occasion we brushed very close to history. They were experiences that flash in my mind, snapshots that will be with me forever.” This is one soldier’s extraordinary story.

Compelling story, beautifully written!

This beautifully written story of a young man's journey into war gives us a rare glimpse into the heart and mind of the Greatest Generation. With the continued passing of WWII veterans, this is a rare opportunity to walk in the experience in a highly personal and historically compelling way.
