Solid introduction to developing semantic web applications

This is a very solid introduction to the world of semantic web for developers who need a practical guide. Even if you did not encounter the concepts related to the semantic web, you will not have any trouble because the author gently introduces every concept and provides you with practical examples and justifications. After having read the first half of the book you'll have a very good grasp of RDF, RDFS, N3, OWL, SPARQL, FOAF, Linked Data and other underlying concepts and technologies. But the story does not end there, in the second part of the book you'll proceed to develop concrete Semantic Web applications using established semantic frameworks such as Jena. You will also have learned how to utilize the most important semantic linked data resources such as DBpedia. The author shows a lot of examples with accompanying source code and does not refrain from explaining the intricate parts of the code as well as pointing out potential improvements and pitfalls in real life scenarios.

I would be willing to give the book five stars if only a little more care were taken in its editing. I'd expect a better proofreading from Springer editors. And even though lots of references are provided within the text it would be good to have a references or bibliography section at the end of the book. I was also surprised because the author never mentioned AllegroGraph, an important player in the field of graph databases / RDF stores.

My conclusion is that if you are going to read only one book for semantic web then it should be this book.

A really good book with really poor editing

The Semantic Web is a very complex topic with a lot of technologies involved. This book covers the topic very well and requires only some prior XML and Java knowledge to follow the examples. Otherwise all subjects are explained in a very professional and reader-friendly way. The thing that I don't like about the book is that it's packed full of grammatical and syntactical errors. OK, I understand that English is not the author's native language, but somebody whose is must have reviewed this book and corrected all the grammatical and other errors because sometimes it's annoying to discover 5 or six errors or more in a single page.

Other than that the book is great. I recommend it if you've never had any experience in the Semantic Web and you have to learn the subject quickly for an exam or something else.

The best of its kind

The book is very well organized, in a logical manner, and covers well the area of Semantic Web Programming.

Liyang Yu does an excellent job of explaining the concepts in great detail. He assumes no prior knowledge on the part of the reader and explains everything in a very methodical manner, leaving no stone unturned. All the explanations are to-the-point and very complete.

Recommended as the best book I encountered in this area.

A wonderful reference tool for the modern classist

The work of Keith Summerour is a great example of a modern day use of traditional proportion, scale, and precedence. The design concepts portrayed in his architecture bring to mind exquisite works of architecture built over 100 years ago. Keith Summerour is able to bring old world techniques into play in the 21st century and is therefore able to acheive a level of detail that distinguishes him from the majority of architects practicing today.

Beautiful photos and a well written, informative text, but this book was written too soon. Mr. Summerour is relatively young and his work so far shows a sameness unworthy of documentation. If this book were written twenty years from now it might be more interesting.
I have all of Mr. Mitchell's other offerings and all are better; this one's a pip.

Second book better than the first!

***I was given a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review***

Although I liked the first novel in this series, I must admit I loved this second book much more! Each book is about a different escort and so far, Troy is my favorite! His heart was damaged from a previous relationship which left him emotionally scarred. Yearning to fall in love like he did in the past, yet too afraid to put himself out there again, he spends his days alone, pretending that he sleeps around to keep his friends from knowing just how damaged he truly is. He was so vulnerable and hurt, I wanted to reach inside the book and hug him! But what I loved about him most was that, despite having his heart ripped out in the past, he still managed to live and smile. He kept living, even if that meant staying alone until the right person came along to show him that loving someone was worth the risk of getting hurt again.

That's where the other main character, his love interest, Harper, came in. We met Harper, the best friend of Aspen--one of the main characters of the first book, in the previous novel so I knew a little about her before reading this novel. I thought I knew her character well. I thought she was confident, strong, and brave, and although she is all those things, there was so much more to her than I originally saw. She was loyal, trustworthy, and amazing. She's one of those best friends that would do anything for their friends, even be hurt over and over again to make sure they're happy. She took one look at Troy and knew he needed a friend and didn't push him for more when she gained feelings for him. She wanted to make sure he was happy, even if that meant never admitting her feelings. She was there for him when he thought no one was, which I admired about her. I loved that they were best friends before they became more. It made the relationship feel so much more strong and worthwhile. You can fall out of love, but you can never stop loving your best friend, no matter what.

Troy is an escort, which he loves. It pays well and the job comes with a few rules that make life easier for his broken heart: no falling in love, no kissing, no feelings, and no sex. After having his heart ripped out and stomped on by a woman he thought loved him, he has no desire to have another relationship. Ever. But when Harper, the best friend of his friend's girlfriend, walks into his life, he doesn't know what to think anymore. He still doesn't want to love ever again, but Harper makes him want to be a different man. She makes him want to change his rules, but can he let her in? Allow his heart to be vulnerable to be broken again?

Harper is desperate for her family to see her worth. But without a man by her side, they barely notice her. So when her sister, Miss perfect, becomes engaged and plans for a wedding within a couple months, Harper knows she needs to do something to keep her parents off her back. That's where Troy comes into the picture. She met him once, he's one of her best friend's friends', but when they start hanging out, sparks fly. He becomes her best friend, and even helps her by escorting her to family functions so her parents will finally notice her, but when her feelings start to grow for Troy, she will have to make a choice: Tell him how she feels, and hope he cares for her as well. Or give him more time to get over his heartbreak, even if that means they can never be more.

This book was excellent! I liked the first book, but this book was outstanding! I felt a connection with Harper and Troy. Their love story wasn't easy, but the best relationships aren't. They fought for their love, fought their demons, and came out together stronger than ever. Surprisingly enough, I liked their friendship more than their romantic relationship. Don't get me wrong, I wanted them to be a couple, but I was happy with their good friendship. They belonged to each other, couple or not.

I highly recommend this book!

PATHETIC......My name is TROY

I was giving a free copy for an honest review

I really wanted to like this book, but unfortunately it just made me frustrated. I was so excited to see that Troy and Harper were getting a love story but I was disappointed. I felt like this was a repeat of the first book Beautiful Entourage. Just different characters.
Aspen and Harper had issues with their parents approval.
Rhett and Troy both had brothers with problems.
Aspen and Harper were able to fix the issues that the brothers had.
Aspen being compared to her cousin Isabella, Harper compared to her sister Kara.
As for Troy I enjoyed him in the first book. He was sarcastic and funny. In this book I couldn't stand him. He was so pathetic. A year has passed since his girl friend dumped him and he is still crying over it. What guy actually says, "I never got to tell her she hurt me? I never got to scream". I have never seen such a weak "hero". There was nothing appealing about him. He wanted to have a friends with benefits relationship with Harper but when it came down to it, he couldn't even perform. He was so unlikeable, pretending to be a player when he hadn't dated anyone since his ex. There was also the contradiction when he said that he was always honest and said exactly what he means, but turns around and continues to lie to Rhett about everything. He doesn't appreciate when Rhett calls him out on it and runs off acting like a child.
I am wondering what is the age of these characters? They act like they are still in high school.
As for Harper I couldn't tell you anything about her, except she doesn't get along with her parents, she is an Interior Decorator and her best friend is Aspen. She just didn't have any personality in this book like she did in the first one.

Romantic, passionate and emotional

Troy and Harper made for strange bedfellows...neither one wanted a relationship (she never had one before and he had his heart broken) but they end up gravitating towards each other out of need. She (like Aspen in the first book) needed a boyfriend to impress her parents and he needed her friendship and decorating skills.
I really enjoyed this one for the most part but got really tired of the back and forth, make-up/break-up and the plot was a tad too close to the first book...both friends had parents who were selfish manipulators and favored their other children over Harper and Aspen.
The romance was strong though and very steamy and passionate, so that part hit a home run for me. These escorts are hot as hell and very dominating...love them!
