Very Nice.

I really like this book. I got it for my one year old (confession, it's for both of us) and was pleasantly surprised at the artwork. I love Charlie Harper and I'm hoping it will transpire to my little guy. My only problem with the book is that it's too short. I guess if it was bigger, though, it would be too heavy for kids.

Vibrant Colors, Stimulating Illustrations

I received a copy of Colors from the publisher for review.

My three-year-old daughter and I read this one together. She is just learning to read and mastering all the different colors. The illustrations are vibrant and very visually pleasing. I love how the text is in the color as well, to help the child recognize the color name. The prose is easy for a beginning reader with a few more challenging words tossed in to help build vocabulary. My daughter wanted to read it over and over again!

I definitely recommend this one for toddler/preschool readers!

Visually beautiful and great quality board book for small hands. As a parent I think introducing artists and artists works to young minds is important. Purchased for my niece and my daughter spotted it and said hey that's Charley Harper's work. Indeed.

About the Author
Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming is a renowned author and teacher of Chinese martial arts and Qigong. Born in Taiwan, he has trained and taught Taijiquan, Qigong and Chinese martial arts for over forty-five years. He is the author of over thirty books, and was elected by Inside Kung Fu magazine as one of the 10 people who has "made the greatest impact on martial arts in the past 100 years." Dr. Yang lives in Northern California.
Liang, Shou-Yu was born on June 28, 1943 in the city of Chongqian, Sichuan Province, China. When he was six he began his training in Qigong, the art of breathing and internal energy control, under the tutelage of his renowned grandfather, the late Liang, Zhi-Xiang. Mr. Liang was taught the esoteric skills of the Emei Mountain sect, including Da Peng Qigong. When he was eight, his grandfather made special arrangements for him to begin training Emei Wushu (martial arts).

Bgua Zhand an Internal Chinese Martial Art

The new edition is a significant improvement over earlier additions with the text clearly following the figures which makes it much easier to follow the instructions. This book by Grandmaster Liang, Shou-yu and co-author Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming is an excellent text on Bagua Zhang. It provides excellent instructions for the reader and student beginning in Bagua Zhang as well as a text for students actively participating in Bagua Zhang classes with a certified master instructor or at Granmaster Liang's school in Vancouver B.C. The introductory chapters provide excellent background information as well. A significant asset for anyone's martial arts library. Highly recommended.

This comment applies only to the Kindle edition. The book is a wonderful, erudite exposition of Baguazhang. In the Kindle edition the illustrations are often cut off as if they don't fit the frame.

This new, postmodern and incisive exploration of Thomas Hardy offers an exciting and radical reappraisal of the discourses of gender, desire, class, economy, socialization, identity and patriarchy in his fiction and poetry. �This new edition of Sexing Hardy includes a new introduction and a new bibliography. EXTRACT FROM CHAPTER ONE: "THOMAS HARDY AND FEMINISM" Is Thomas Hardy a feminist? Are Thomas Hardy's works feminist? How much do his works reflect and bolster the patriarchal attitudes and beahviour�of his era, and how much do they question them? What is the relation�between Hardy and the feminists of his time? And what is the link�between Hardy's works and the feminism of the early 21st century? Thomas Hardy's theme is what you might call 'Wessexuality', 'Wes-sex-mania', Wessexual�politics. Hardy's works are sexist, patriarchal and masculinist, and yet they question notions of sexism, gender, identity, patriarchy and masculinism. A text such as Tess of the d'Urbervilles is 'traditional', and follows patriarchal codes and morals. Yet it also questions them, and offers a number of feminist critiques of late 19th century society. In his letters, Thomas Hardy proposed feminist views; he wrote to feminists such as the suffragette leader Millicent Fawcett that a child was the mother's own business, not the father's (Collected Letters, 3, 238). One can see these feminist sentiments in, for example, Hardy's treatment of Tess in her motherhood: she works in the fields just a few weeks after the birth, even though she is melancholy (she seems to be suffering a mild form of post-natal depression). Tess further subverts patriarchy by taking her child's baptism into her own hands. She goes against her father, the vicar, and the whole church with her self-made baptism. [...] Thomas Hardy's novels were not always received favourably by women critics and readers. Hardy's own views, expressed outside of the novels, did not always square with those of feminists of the 1880s and 1890s. The ideological gap between Hardy and the women critics and feminists of the late 19th century is illustrated by Hardy's remark to Edmund Yates (in 1891): 'many of my novels have suffered so much from misrepresentation as being attacks on womankind' (Collected Letters, I, 250). HARDY THE FEMINIST

Thomas Hardy was certainly something of a feminist - books like Tess of the D'Urbervilles and Jude the Obscure prove that.
This is one of the few really interesting feminist studies of Thomas Hardy's fiction - I mean, there are quite a few books about Hardy's novels which take a feminist approach but some of them are pretty dry and academic (and they tell you stuff you knew already). Margaret Elvy's approach to Hardy's stories is refreshing, because it has absorbed the main elements of feminist literary criticism, and all that's been written about Hardy, but also has plenty to add to it.
